Pastoral Care and Well-being
At St. Vincent’s, the happiness and well-being of everyone; children, staff and parents, is paramount to what we do. All staff give of their best to ensure all our children feel supported at school. We also have two teaching assistants who have been trained as Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA). Our SEND leaders, Mrs Dowler (SENDCo) and Miss Liddy (SENDCo) also provide support and guidance.
Examples of when we can give support:
- When children are dealing with difficulties at home such as illness and bereavement.
- When children find it difficult to get along with friends.
- When children want to talk about their worries.
- When children want some help and advice before moving on to another year group or school.
Where will the support be given?
- Our lodge has been set up as an ELSA base and this has been timetabled for the year.
- Within class or in working spaces around school.
- Around school during breaks and lunchtimes facilitating play.
How can you get help?
- Talk to your child’s teacher or the Head Teacher.
- Children may ask for help and support.
- We have Worry Boxes in each class to enable children to ask for support in confidence.
What kind of work will my child do?
Your child’s teacher will work with you to find out how we can support you and your child.
- A number of support networks are available for the children to access: ELSA groups, Cool Connections, morning nurture groups, Resilient Classroom and 1:1 TA and teacher time.
- Your child may access support in a number of ways including working in a group or individually and the work may be indoors or outdoors.
