PE & Sports Funding

PE and Sports Funding 2016-2017

The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At St. Vincent’s we are utilising the new Primary PE & Sport funding to improve the quality and breadth of our PE & Sport provision through continually developing teaching and learning in PE, encouraging our pupils to adopt health active lifestyles and to take part in a wide range of sports and physical activities including more competitive school sport.

At St. Vincent’s, we receive £8,905 of funding (£8000 per school, plus £5 per pupil from Year 1-Year 6) which we add to and then spend in the following way:

PE Curriculum

A teacher, who has attended a subject leadership PE course, provides up to1 hour of high quality Gymnastics or Dance to each class each week.

This provides high quality CPD for the class teacher to further develop PE knowledge, skills and confidence.

Maths of the Day

This is a scheme of work that encourages physical activity and links PE with Maths in a fun and active way. It was partly funded through Maths budget too.

  • Develop Sports Leaders to work to make lunchtimes more active. Cost for teacher to train children.

Knutsford Schools Sports Partnership

  • Provide a variety of sporting competitions.
  • Increase pupils’ participation in the School Games.
Total expenditure £10,776

The additional £1871 is allocated from the school budget. School also funds a specialist PE coach to deliver high quality games lessons to each class each week
