Religious Education

At St. Vincent’s we follow the Religious Education scheme ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’ as selected by the diocese of Shrewsbury.  Each year group has their own topics for the year, studied on a half termly basis.

Called to serve

We also aim to foster the spiritual development of our children by experiencing the love of God and leading them to a greater understanding of our faith, not just through our R.E. lessons, but through collective worships, personal reflections and by putting our faith into action and living it out on a daily basis.

Every part of our liturgical year is important but Advent and Lent is a special time for us to reflect on our faith journey.

During Advent, the children make promises as a way of preparing for the birth of Jesus.  Here are a selection of them on display in different classes.

Travelling Crib

We have also introduced the 'Travelling Crib' this year which reflects the true meaning of Christmas.  This has proved to be a great success as our children have enjoyed writing prayers with their family, lighting the advent candle and sharing the nativity story with siblings.  Thank you to all those families who have welcomed the set into their homes.

Our Lenten promises are presented during our Ash Wednesday service.  Children and staff also have the opportunity to offer their personal prayers at our Lent prayer station.  It is lovely to see so many take a moment out of the hustle and bustle of school life to reflect and pray.

Holy week

Our Key Stage 2 children provide us with thought-provoking reflections as the events of Holy week unfold day by day.  At the beginning of the week, Year 3 re-enact Palm Sunday, followed by Year 4 on Tuesday revealing the Last Supper.  On Wednesday, Year 5 re-enact the events which took place in the Garden of Gethsemane, culminating in Year 6 showing us Peter's denial and finally, the Crucifixion.  Please scroll down to the bottom of this page to see a slideshow of key moments.
