Autumn

We are Scientists!

We have already been incredibly busy studying our topic of 'Light' in Science lessons. We have investigated factors which affect the clarity and size of shadows, and have quite a considerable understanding of the light spectrum and how our amazing eyes work!

RE: Year 6 Speak up for Justice

In our RE lessons, we will focus specifically on how, as Christians, we are ALL called to speak up for justice. We will conduct projects on the work of CAFOD and the initiatives with which they are involved, as well as finding out about famous individuals around the world and throughout history who have spoken out against injustice. We have already considered how the important document 'The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child' protects the rights of children just like us, and we have conducted a challenging social experiment based upon justice/being 'worthy', in order to fully recognise how children feel when they do not feel valued and have their rights respected:

We are writers!

During the Autumn term, Year 6 will be using several texts and videos to inspire a whole range of creative writing opportunities. Texts will include:

The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris

Survivors by David Long

Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll

I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai

We will also use short films such as Pixar's 'For the Birds' and Literacy Shed's 'Beyond the Lines' to inspire a range of creative writing opportunities linked to anti-bullying and remembrance themes.

Just look at the wonderful Lost Words display we created, and click on the links at the bottom of the page to have a read of some of the amazing poetry we have written - all inspired by the work of Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris!
